Designing an immersive experience to provide visitors with a glimpse of the future of our nature and unsustainable environment.
Challenge
The goal of this project was to design an immersive experience to provide visitors of a public exhibition with a glimpse of the world in 2060. We critically explored future perspectives. What current trends could shape our future in a drastic way? How do we live in 2060 if...? It already tells a lot that we used Black Mirror as source of inspiration to speculate about our future.
My role and impact
In this team project, we created multiple interactive prototypes to enable storytelling and create an immersive experience. I had the responsibility of both doing the initial research needed to shape a future and of creating the hardware of several prototypes.
Result
The result of this project is RESOIL, a factory that provides job opportunities for many people as there is no degree or experience needed. Inside the factory, employees work to clean the soil of the neighborhood by removing chemicals and non-degradable waste. Their goal is to bring back nature again! Unfortunately, the work does not come without risks. Workers are exposed to dangerous chemicals that are released during the cleaning process. They have to work efficiently to avoid health issues. Will they still be healthy after a day of work? What is human safety worth against the safety of the earth?
